DOMINICAN REPUBLIC MISSION TRIP 2026

First Presbyterian Church of Troy (FPCT) is going to the Dominican Republic in June! Our team will serve alongside a medical missionary, serve local believers and support ministries that are already meeting both spiritual and material needs.

Our Motivation

Jesus commissioned us to “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations…” (Matt. 28:19a) He’s given us the privilege and responsibility to join Him in calling those lost in sin to come to Him! There are two ways we do this: by Going and Sending.

Go!

Jesus’ command is a call to ACTION! A Call to “Preach the Gospel” in both word and deed, at home and abroad. All are called to “mission” where they are. Some are called to “mission” in other places.

You might ask: “What if I’m not able to step away from the pressures and responsibilities of family and work to go to a foreign land and serve Christ with other believers there?”

Or, you might wonder: “What if my health is such that I cannot travel?

In that case, you can . . .

Send!

The Great Commission is for all of us – yet, we all have different roles. Your role might be to remain on the home front while sending others to foreign places. In that case, you can give your time in prayer and you can give your resources. John says that, in doing this, we are actually taking part in that ministry!

Beloved, it is a faithful thing you do in all your efforts for these brothers, strangers as they are, who testified to your love before the church. You will do well to send them on their journey in a manner worthy of God. For they have gone out for the sake of the name, accepting nothing from the Gentiles. Therefore we ought to support people like these, that we may be fellow workers for the truth. 3 John 1:5-8

We all are called to either go or to send.

The Work

Our team will travel to Santo Domingo, the capital of the Dominican Republic, partnering with Dr. Silvia Martinez (with Sociedad Lucas), a local Dominican physician and Christian leader who has spent years serving “the least of these” (Matt. 25:40) in the region, and whose ministry is already bearing fruit.

There are four main missions:

  1. Children’s Bible Programs Hosting Bible schools and activities for more than 400 children, sharing the hope of the Gospel while investing in the next generation.
  2. Medical Outreach Supporting medical assistance efforts for Haitian refugees living in bateyes (shantytowns), some of the poorest in the Dominican Republic.
  3. Worship and Fellowship Joining Dominican believers in worship and fellowship at Dr. Martinez’s church, strengthening the unity of the global body of Christ.
  4. School Construction Support Helping advance the construction of a school that will provide children with education and long-term opportunity.

Your Partnership

Would you join with us by helping to SEND us?

How?

We are seeking both prayer and financial support as we prepare for this opportunity to serve. First, we ask for your prayers – that the Lord would help us to (1) understand the needs and culture of those we are serving; (2) be able to communicate with the people there; (3) to meet the spiritual and physical needs of those we are going to serve; also, (4) for safe travel and good health for our team. We long for effective ministry and for people’s lives to be touched by the love of Christ through these efforts.

We need to raise $18,000 for our 10-person team to cover travel expenses, ministry materials, and project support. Gifts from friends, family, and members of our community help make this work possible.

All funds must be received by May 15th in order to prepare for the June trip.
